A player of the electric bass since the age of 14, Joshua Hammond has always striven to be the best at what he does. His specialist knowledge in this area of music is vital to performing in live & studio scenarios. Hailing from the Black Country region of England, he was born & bred within a historic local scene that has seen the likes of Led Zeppelin, Judas Priest, UB40, Slade, Diamond Head, & Black Sabbath make an impact on the music industry. Artists like these have encouraged him to do the same.
After studying a BTEC National Diploma in Music Practice at college Joshua was then offered a place at the renowned Brighton Institute of Modern Music, eventually earning an BA (Hons) Degree in Professional Musicianship. It was here his skills could begin to flourish among other like-minded musicians. Just a few months after starting BIMM, he joined progressive metal act DROWN IN ENTROPY, self-releasing an EP entitled ‘Wolves Under Whitened Skies’ worldwide and toured the United Kingdom.
He also provided his performing talents to other Brighton artists such as April Amos, Once A Wolf, Jack Brett and Watford-based Tom Craven – the latter Joshua recently played on his debut album ‘Letter/Diary’ (produced by Matthew Parisi of XS-Seven Studios). In March 2012, he toured with UK metalcore outfit RISE TO REMAIN. The band was signed to EMI Records & Century Media (USA) having toured with the likes of Trivium, Iron Maiden, Bullet For My Valentine and Funeral For A Friend.
December 2013 saw Josh join UK alternative metal quintet AURORA, signed to renowned indie label In At The Deep End Records. The likes of Architects, Gallows, Suicide Silence, Sylosis, Romeo Must Die have released pivotal underground music on the label in previous years. Within the first 6 months of joining Aurora, they regularly toured the United Kingdom, played various festival dates such as Takedown & Slam Dunk and released their debut album ‘Faith/Breaker’ in late 2015.
After taking a break from music for 2 years to focus on his teacher training, Joshua then joined Birmingham punk rockers VERTIGO VIOLET in April 2017, again gigging regularly with them and also due to release new music with a strong DIY ethic. Then in October 2017, he became the touring bassist for nationally recognized theatre act CIRCUS OF HORRORS, going on to perform almost 100 theaters and opera houses over the course of 5 months. The touring group were semi-finalists on TV reality show Britain’s Got Talent in 2011, bringing the circus into the mainstream and beyond.
Joshua also finds time to educate other aspiring musicians through private 1-2-1 & group lessons. He currently teaches bass / guitar / keyboards / piano at Teach Me Music Academy in Kidderminster, Worcestershire whilst performing with a wide range of function bands and solo artists such as ABI K and METZ JNR.
